Alfajores are a very typical bread in Argentina and there are some for every taste! There is chocolate dipped, white or milk chocolate, corn dough, dulce de leche and fruit jam.

Try this lovely recipe from the province of Cordoba. Of course, there are different alfajors in each region!

They are very good and easy to make. For the filling, you need dulce de leche, and if you can't find it, you can use condensed milk (read dulce de leche) that you can find in supermarkets.
Hope you like it!

You need :

300 g of flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
a pinch of salt

1 teaspoon of grated lemon peel
150 g of butter

2 yolks

5 tablespoons of milk

300 g of dulce de leche

Sugar bath
480 g powdered sugar

1/3 cup hot water

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Mix all three ingredients. If the bath is too thick, you can add water. If it's too runny, add more sugar. It should be like light cream.

Dough :

Mix flour, sugar, salt and grated lemon peel. Add butter and mix well. Add the yolks and milk and knead until you get a good dough. Leave it to rest for 15 minutes.

Stretch the dough very thin (2 mm) and cut into a circle with a diameter of 6-7 cm. Place them on a baking sheet and bake at 200 degrees for 8-10 minutes. When they have cooled, place 3-4 of them on top of each other, adding dulce de leche in between. Roll them completely in the sugar bath.
